Services for Persons with Physical and Mental Disabilities

 

Social Security benefits for retired persons 62/65 years of age for full benefits. Benefit award amounts depend upon wages earned and number of quarters of coverage credited to the individual’s Social Security record. 

 

 Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits for persons age 65 and older diagnosed with functional disabilities, and who have little or no income resources.

 

Social Security Disability Income (SSDI) provides monthly cash benefits for disabled workers who are fully insured under the program, who are not capable of substantial gainful employment.

 

Consumers may apply for Social Security, SSI and SSDI at their local Social Security Administration Office.

Eligibility criteria for this program include: the presence of a physical or mental disability that results in a substantial impediment to employment, whether the individual is employable after receiving services, and whether services are required to achieve employment outcomes. Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) program helps Texans with disabilities prepare for, find and keep employment. This program also helps students with disabilities plan the jump from school to work.
