Food Pantries and Food Vouchers:

Food pantries usually offer people bags or boxes of non-perishable food items, such as canned foods. Organizations and churches obtain the food from donations, food drives and from the Capital Area Food Bank, which distributes food to over 340 organizations and churches in the Central Texas area.

Food vouchers are coupons, provided by organizations and churches, which people may use to purchase food at designated grocery stores. Many organizations and churches offering food pantries and/or vouchers are located throughout Travis County. Several serve only certain geographic regions or zip codes, and some may have specific eligibility criteria, call your (see listings below) nearest neighborhood center for monthly schedule
served by Capital Area Food Banks.

Food Stamps:
The food stamp program is a federally funded program that enables people with low income to purchase food at grocery stores. Families, older adults, working adults without children, and people with disabilities must meet the income criteria to be eligible for the program. In Texas paper food stamp coupons are no longer issued. Instead, each family receives an electronic transfer debit card, called the Lone Star Card. Approved households are entitled to purchase a designated amount of food utilizing their cards,
based on net income and household size.
